Student Sustainability Representative
Reports To: Student Office Manager & Sustainability Coordinators (when applicable)
The Student Sustainability Representative is integral to making Campus Dining a more sustainable endeavor. They are responsible for ensuring Campus Dining continually pushes forward to be a leading organization supporting sustainable solutions. Candidates will need to be able to self-direct their own projects and learning in order to be successful, so it is important to be passionate about communicating with and educating peers and coworkers regarding practices related to sustainability.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Monitor sustainability benchmarks within Residential Dining at the unit level
· Lead outreach and education events in your unit related to food waste, reusable containers, local foods, and waste reduction
· Participate in a monthly meeting with all other sustainability representatives and coordinators
· Participate in monthly meeting with unit staff (a Manager or Managing Chef) and/or Leanpath Champion team
· Communicate with sustainability coordinators
· Collaborate with Eco Reps., Student Farm, and other student organizations as needed
· Actively advocate for sustainability in your unit
· Serve as a resource for other employees in your unit to provide trainings and answer questions around sustainability initiatives
· Assist with implementation and communication of food waste reduction initiatives at a unit level
Qualifications:
· Must have at least one year remaining of their degree program
· Must be a crew member for at least 1 semester
· Awareness of sustainability practices and programs, especially at Penn State is preferred
· Completion of sustainability related course work is helpful
