Directly reporting to the CEO, this critical position drives financial stability, internal control, and system efficiency for an established industrial supplier to automotive and mining. Working as an Independent Contractor for 24 hours per week (in-office Monday to Thursday, 09:00 to 15:00), you will take full ownership of the day-to-day finance, mitigate operational risk, and streamline internal processes. This is an ideal role for a calm, practical, and highly collaborative individual supporting an entrepreneurial CEO. Key Responsibilities: Cash Flow & Ledger Oversight: Maintain strict oversight of accounts receivable and payable functions, systematically managing debtors and creditors to protect cash flow. Financial Reporting & Reconciliations: Prepare accurate profit and loss statements, monthly management accounts, and periodic bank reconciliations to give executive leadership complete clarity on financial health. System & Process Optimization: Evaluate, simplify, and implement robust financial checks and balances, optimizing workflows across all transactions. Compliance & Risk Management: Monitor tax compliance (VAT input/output) and proactively identify, highlight, and mitigate financial and operational risks across the business. Cost Control & Financial Efficiency: Initiate targeted cost-saving strategies, scrutinize operational expenses, and drive commercial value across business operations. Travel to the head office, Johannesburg, once a quarter to oversee stock take. Requirements Qualified Accountant (e.g., BCom Accounting or relevant financial qualification) OR a minimum of 15 years’ hands-on, progressive accounting experience. Solid understanding of South African tax compliance, including input and output VAT calculations and SARS e-Filing processes. Proven track record in managing complete general ledger, ledger reconciliations, and management accounts preparation. Strong commercial acumen within supply chain, industrial, or technical goods environments. A calm, practical, and highly collaborative environment supporting an entrepreneurial Chief Executive Officer. Required Software Skills: Advanced Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, vlookups, pivot tables). Proficiency in South African cloud or desktop accounting software (e.g., Sage Pastel / ERP system).
