Part-Time Seasonal Stable Hand – Karaka
Westbury Stud is seeking a hardworking and reliable person to join our Karaka team in a part-time seasonal role.
This is a practical, hands-on position primarily focused on mucking out stables, cleaning yards and helping keep our barns and facilities clean, tidy and well maintained. It is not a horse-handling role, although you will be working in and around a busy thoroughbred stud environment.
The position is available for an immediate start and is expected to continue until the end of January 2027.
Hours of Work
Approximately 20 hours per week.
There is some flexibility around the daily hours, which may be arranged as either:
- Approximately 7:30am to 12:00pm; or
- Approximately 9:00am to 2:00pm.
Exact days and hours can be discussed with the successful applicant.
Role and Responsibilities
- Mucking out stables and replacing bedding.
- Sweeping and tidying stable blocks, barns, yards and surrounding areas.
- Cleaning sand yards, walkways and other horse areas.
- Filling hay racks and assisting with basic feeding-related duties when required.
- Cleaning water troughs, feed bins and stable equipment.
- Removing manure, used bedding and other waste.
- Keeping storage areas and shared facilities clean, tidy and organised.
- Assisting with washing farm vehicles and equipment.
- Reporting any damage or maintenance issues, including damaged fencing, gates or troughs.
- Following all farm health and safety procedures.
- Completing any other reasonable cleaning or general duties requested by the Manager.
About You
You will need to:
- Be physically fit and capable of completing repetitive manual work.
- Be comfortable lifting, carrying, bending and working on your feet for extended periods.
- Be hardworking, reliable and able to maintain a consistent standard of work.
- Have good attention to detail and take pride in keeping work areas clean and tidy.
- Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Be comfortable working around horses, although previous horse-handling experience is not required.
- Be willing to work in a busy outdoor farm environment in varying weather conditions.
This role involves regular exposure to straw, hay, sawdust and other bedding materials, which can be very dusty. It may therefore not be suitable for applicants with significant dust, hay or animal-related allergies.

- This is a fixed-term, part-time position expected to finish at the end of January 2027.
- On-site accommodation is not available.
