Hours Worked: Part-time, Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

Compensation: $21–23/hour, commensurate with experience
ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
The Spence School is an independent girls' school in New York City serving students in grades K–12. We are seeking a Part-Time Salad Prep Cook to join our kitchen team at the Middle/Upper School campus, where we serve over 550 students (grades 5–12) and 125 faculty and staff daily.

JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Salad Prep Cook with at least three years of professional kitchen experience. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role supporting daily salad and cold-food production, lunch service, and occasional special events.
Reporting to the Salad Station Lead, the Salad Prep Cook will work closely with the cold-side team to prepare fresh, high-quality salads, vegetables, dressings, and other cold menu items in a collaborative, high-volume school kitchen. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, flexible, and enjoys working as part of a team. Strong knife skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to assist wherever needed are essential.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional prep or salad experience; high-volume experience strongly preferred
- Strong knife skills and experience preparing vegetables, salads, and cold menu items
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including HACCP and ServSafe standards
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Collaborative, flexible, dependable, and able to maintain a positive, professional work environment
- Interest in scratch cooking, sustainability, and feeding a school community
- Friendly, professional demeanor and commitment to excellent customer service
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare daily salads, vegetables, dressings, fruit, and other cold menu items
- Support lunch service and replenish salad bar and cold offerings throughout service
- Communicate closely with the Salad Station Lead and kitchen team to support daily production needs
- Complete tasks accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation
- Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and service spaces
- Participate in deep-cleaning projects as needed
