The Division of Infectious Diseases seeks to hire a Laboratory Sciences Professional with basic bench lab experience. Employee will use molecular biological, microbiological, and bioinformatic skills to perform basic research on the role(s) of microbial communities in human health and disease.
The work will mainly entail primary laboratory experimental and analytic responsibilities. Some contribution to general lab maintenance and ordering is also expected.
This is a part-time (20 hrs/week) position.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform and analyze experiments utilizing a variety of laboratory techniques, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing processes.
Prepare and maintain laboratory operations, including equipment, materials, safety compliance, and quality control.
Ensure proper sample collection, preparation, transport, documentation, and disposal in accordance with established guidelines and regulations.
Maintain accurate logs, databases, and subject-level documentation.
Identify operational efficiencies, recommend process improvements, and assist leadership with implementing quality initiatives.
Assist in training and mentoring junior team members.
DNA/RNA extractions from potentially infectious specimens.
16S rRNA gene PCR
Prepare amplicon, metagenomic, and meta-transcriptomic libraries for high-throughput DNA/RNA sequencing.
Next-generation sequencing.
Propagate microbial consortia and individual microbial strains/species in vitro.
Prepare inoculums for animal experimentation.
Work Location:
Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
One (1) year professional level research experience.
A combination of education and related technical/military/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
An advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate) may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis if the degree is in a field of study directly related to the work assignment.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this part-time (0.5 FTE) position has been established as $26,015 – $34,860
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
