Description:

Position Title: Radiation Specialist Assistant

Job Summary The Radiation Specialist Assistant supports radiation safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and operational activities within a healthcare, research, or industrial environment. This role assists Radiation Safety Officers (RSOs), medical physicists, radiation therapists, and other professionals in monitoring radiation-related processes, maintaining records, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and supporting staff and patient safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Radiation Safety Support

• Assist with radiation safety monitoring and compliance programs.
• Perform routine radiation surveys and contamination checks as directed.
• Monitor radiation badges and personnel dosimetry records.
• Support investigations of radiation safety incidents and document findings.

Compliance and Documentation

• Maintain accurate radiation safety records and reports.
• Assist with regulatory inspections and audits.
• Track licenses, permits, and required certifications.
• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and organizational radiation safety regulations.

Quality Assurance

• Support quality control testing of radiation-producing equipment.
• Assist in documenting equipment performance and maintenance activities.
• Monitor calibration schedules for radiation detection instruments.
• Help maintain quality assurance records and corrective action documentation.

Operational Support

• Coordinate scheduling of radiation safety inspections and training sessions.
• Inventory radiation monitoring equipment and safety supplies.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence related to radiation safety programs.
• Respond to routine inquiries regarding radiation safety procedures.

Education and Training

• Assist with radiation safety orientation programs for employees.
• Help develop educational materials and training documentation.
• Reinforce radiation safety practices and protocols among staff.

Qualifications

Education

• Associate degree in Radiation Technology, Health Physics, Nuclear Medicine, Medical Imaging, Biology, Physical Sciences, or related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

• 1-3 years of experience in healthcare, medical imaging, radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, environmental health and safety, or a related field preferred.
• Experience with regulatory documentation and compliance activities is beneficial.

Pay Range: $38.35-$51.61

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
