The Upper Marlboro Community Center is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and dependable Part- Time Preschool Teacher to join our early childhood education team. Examples of duties

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate educational activities.
  • Foster children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and staff.
  • Follow all licensing regulations, policies, and procedures

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Must successfully complete all required background checks and meet Maryland childcare licensing requirements.

Preferred

  • 90-Hour Child Care Certification
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Act as a role model by displaying positive and courteous behaviors that children will admire and want to emulate
  • Maintain awareness of children’s needs
  • Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, for self and others
  • Current certification in First Aid and CPR (infant/child and adult), or able to become so certified within 60 days of hire (current certifications must be maintained throughout employment)
  • Occasionally lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment weighing 25 pounds or more

May be subject to drug and alcohol testing.

Work hours

  • Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
  • Weekends: May vary based on program and community center needs.


Working Conditions/Environment

  • Classroom-based early childhood education setting.
  • May include indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Position involves frequent interaction and engagement with preschool-aged children.

About Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a bi-county agency empowered by the State of Maryland in 1927 to acquire, develop, maintain and administer a regional system of parks within Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, and to provide land use planning for the physical development of these counties. The agency gained responsibility for public recreation program in Prince George's County in 1970.

Governing Body

The governing body of M-NCPPC consists of 10 members, 5 appointed by Montgomery County and 5 by Prince George's County. The Commission coordinates & acts on matters of interest to both counties, and meets at least once a month. The members of the Commission from each county serve as separate Planning Boards to facilitate, review and administer the matters affecting their respective counties.

Range of Duties

M-NCPPC administers a park system of more than 52,000 acres. It is composed of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks and park-school recreation areas. Its staff of career employees includes planners, park and recreation administrators, park police and administration staff. In addition, seasonal workers staff numerous park and recreation programs.
