About the Job
If you love working with young children and believe early learning should be engaging, hands-on, and fun, this role is for you. As a Preschool Instructor, you’ll be part of a collaborative team creating a safe, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate environment where children can learn, explore, and grow. You won’t just “watch kids” — you’ll actively shape their preschool experience through play, creativity, and connection.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Supervise and actively engage with preschool-aged children in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Plan and lead developmentally appropriate activities such as art, music, storytelling, science, and play-based learning
- Prepare, organize, and clean activity materials and program spaces
- Support overall preschool program planning and preparation
- Create a warm, caring environment where children and families feel safe, welcome, and supported
- Monitor equipment and facilities for safety concerns and report issues promptly
- Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and procedures
- Attend required meetings and training sessions
- Work collaboratively with the preschool team and Preschool Supervisor
- Uphold equal opportunity and harassment laws, policies, and procedures
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- One of the following combinations of education and experience:
- - Sixty (60) semester hours of college coursework with at least eighteen (18) hours in early childhood education, child development, or a related field, or
- - Thirty (30) semester hours of college coursework and one (1) year of childcare experience, or
- - A Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, or
- - A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of childcare experience.
