The City of Raleigh is looking for a part-time Planner to join our Planning and Development department. This role will work alongside colleagues on the long-range planning team on Raleigh’s Next Comprehensive Plan, a major project that will impact how the city grows and develops over the next 25 years.
The ideal candidate will be organized and self-directed with strong communication skills. To thrive in this role, the candidate will enjoy thinking about planning issues, collaborating with colleagues across the organization, and engaging with residents across the city. In this role, you have an opportunity to contribute to a once-in-a-generation project that will set the future direction for planning in a rapidly growing city. You will have hands-on experience working with tenured colleagues, and leaders in their respective fields.

This position will primarily support the development of Raleigh’s Next Comprehensive Plan. There will also be opportunities to work on special projects to support the public engagement and research work of the division. Attendance at occasional evening and weekend meetings is desired. Specific tasks include:
Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or related field and 1 year of planning experience in an area relevant to the department to which assigned
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment or in a vehicle.
Employees in this role will occasionally interact with individuals who are hostile or irate.
