Job Description
Our Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides physical therapy services to patients requiring skilled therapy interventions under the clinical direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist and in accordance with physician’s orders and the established plan of care. The Physical Therapist Assistant reports to and receives operational direction from the Director of Rehabilitation, who oversees all therapy services to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Provide scheduled home physical therapy visits on a part-time basis under the direction of the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Implement physical therapy treatment plans developed by the Physical Therapist.
• Perform follow-up visits and document patient responses to treatment.
• Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, gait/ambulation training, neuromuscular re-education, balance training, coordination activities, and transfer training as outlined in the plan of care.
• Reinforce home exercise programs and safety education as directed by the Physical Therapist.
• Monitor and report patient progress and any changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and Rehabilitation Director.
• Assess patient vitals (BP, HR, SaO2) as needed for patient safety and report abnormal findings per agency’s protocol.
• Reinforce education on proper use of durable medical equipment (DME) and assistive devices (AD) including walkers, grab bars, shower chairs, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and prostheses.
• Accurately and thoroughly document interventions and patient response in accordance with agency standards.
• Participate in interdisciplinary communication with SN, OT, PT, PTA, SLP, and MD as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with infection-control policies and safety regulations.
• Maintain professional competency and compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU HAVE:
• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
• Valid license to practice as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Iowa
• Current CPR certification
• Valid Driver’s License
PREFERRED EDUCATION AN EXPERIENCE:
• 1 year of home care experience preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND OFFICE ENVIRONMENT:
• Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit
• Frequently required to use hands and fingers
• Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, balance, or climb
• Occasionally required to lift or transfer patients
• May lift/push greater than 25 pounds as needed
• Frequent exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens or infectious materials
