Part-time Permit Clerk

About the Role
The City of Katy is seeking a reliable and customer-focused Part-time Permit Clerk to join our Permit/Inspection team. In this role, you'll serve as a key point of contact for residents, contractors, and visitors while supporting the processing of permits and daily administrative operations.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver excellent customer service in person and over the phone
  • Process permit applications, issue permits, and maintain accurate records
  • Receive and reconcile payments, balance cash, and prepare deposits
  • Schedule pre-construction meetings and coordinate appointments
  • Track permit activity and notify contractors of expirations
  • Perform clerical tasks including data entry, filing, and mail distribution
  • Support overall office operations and assist with special projects as needed

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • At least 2 years of customer service or clerical experience (municipal experience a plus)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency with computers and standard office software

Additional Details

  • May require a valid Texas driver's license
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment
  • This role is designated as an Essential Critical Infrastructure position
