Job Title: Nurse-LPN or RN

Location: Columbia, MO
Department: Behavioral Crisis Center
Employment Type: Part-Time (12.5 hours/wk)
Schedule: Saturday 7pm-7am (Overnight) and Saturday 7am-7pm (Daytime) shifts available

We are seeking a part-time Saturday clinic nurse for our groundbreaking and innovative Behavioral Crisis Center in Columbia. The center is Burrell's 24/7 “rapid-access” mental health and substance-use clinic, which is an alternative to the hospital Emergency Department (ED) for individuals whose presenting problem is primarily psychiatric and/or substance use (including opioid use).

This is a unique nursing position supporting clients in crisis that differs from a hospital or clinic nurse position. Crisis nurses can expect the position to focus on assessment rather than physical care. Nurses conduct evaluations and collaborate to decide whether clients can stay on site to receive mental health services or should be referred to a higher level of care. The nurse is an integral part of an interdisciplinary team supporting clients on their mental health journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • - Deliver compassionate and personalized nursing care, prioritizing the needs and well-being of clients in every interaction while allowing room for flexibility.
  • - Skillfully execute physician's orders, ensuring coordinated healthcare services and promoting a seamless patient experience, taking into account individual preferences and adapting as necessary.
  • - Carry out essential nursing responsibilities, including accurate temperature and blood pressure measurements, fostering a sense of comfort and confidence in clients through attention to detail and thoroughness.
  • - Engage in detailed interviews with clients and their families, actively seeking to understand their medical background and medication history in order to provide comprehensive and individualized care plans, paying attention to specific preferences and accommodating accordingly.
  • - Maintain and update patient documentation, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records to facilitate effective communication and coordination among healthcare professionals, while recognizing the importance of accuracy and precision.
  • - Monitor and manage medical administration records (MARs) and handle medication prescribing authorities (PA's) proficiently, prioritizing patient safety and adhering to protocols, with a focus on organization and thoroughness.
  • - Serve as a valuable resource for nursing and medical inquiries, offering guidance and expertise to colleagues, clients, and their families, fostering collaboration and support within the healthcare community, keeping in mind the desire for continuous learning and growth.
