Responsibilities and Duties

WHO/WHAT: Some families measure quality time in vacations and big adventures. This family protects an hour of it every single day. Phones down, everyone in the living room, and for one hour, the rest of the world can wait. They might play music, pull out a game, talk, laugh, or simply hang out together. With three boys ages 7, 4, and 1, we're guessing “quietly sit and reflect” isn't usually on the agenda—but being together absolutely is.

Around here, Legos are serious business, bikes are meant to be ridden, and a trip to the pool, museum, or science center is always a good idea. Life with three boys is active, occasionally chaotic, and rarely boring—and Mom and Dad wouldn't have it any other way. At the end of the day, what they want is actually pretty simple: for their boys to grow up feeling safe, happy, deeply loved, and pretty darn lucky to have had such a fun childhood. Now they need someone wonderful to help make the logistics of that childhood work. Mom is a physician whose schedule includes a combination of flexible workdays when she absolutely has to be there. Instead of squeezing a nanny into a rigid weekly schedule that doesn't match real life, the family is hoping to find someone who appreciates some flexibility too. The family is committed to guaranteeing 140 paid hours every four weeks—an average of 35 hours per week—even if every hour isn't ultimately needed.

The 7-year-old is in school, and the 4-year-old attends preschool, although he may occasionally stay home when Mom is home. Translation: this isn't necessarily three-boy mayhem all day, every day! Most days will have their own rhythm, but the family does need someone who can confidently take the reins when all three boys are together.

And what might those days look like? Build the Lego masterpiece. Get outside and ride bikes. Pack up for the pool. Wander the science center. Read the same book to the one-year-old for the 47th time. Let the boys be bored long enough to invent something ridiculous. They want someone who genuinely enjoys kids, knows how to have fun with them, and can create the kind of ordinary days that somehow become the memories kids keep. Household responsibilities are intentionally light and child-focused: children's laundry, vacuuming, sweeping, and generally helping reset the kid chaos so everyone is ready to do it all over again tomorrow.

The family hopes to find someone who will stick around for at least a year and ideally a couple of years or more. As the boys grow and school schedules change, the position may evolve toward more afternoon hours. More than anything, they're looking for someone who wants to become part of their village—someone their boys are excited to see walk through the door and Mom and Dad feel completely at ease leaving behind it.

THE IDEAL NANNY IS…THE KIND OF PERSON A FAMILY CAN COUNT ON. You're adaptable, helpful, fun, and patient, but you're also exceptionally reliable—because you understand that when a physician needs to be at work, being punctual isn't optional.

You genuinely enjoy children at different stages and are equally comfortable getting on the floor with a one-year-old, encouraging a preschooler's imagination, or diving into a project with a seven-year-old. You're confident managing three children when everyone is home, but also appreciate the opportunity for more individualized time when the older boys are at school. You're trustworthy, kind, and naturally look for ways to be helpful. You don't need every minute of your day mapped out for you, and when plans change, you're able to adjust without missing a beat. Most importantly, you'd love to become a trusted part of a family's village, grow alongside three pretty great boys, and help give them the kind of childhood they'll someday love looking back on.
