The Mosquito Surveillance Technician is a grant-funded, part-time position at the Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) that works 8 hours per week on Mosquito Control Grant activities. This is a temporary position and will end on October 17, 2025 when the grant funding stops. The position enhances the capacity of the SCHD to conduct mosquito surveillance and protect Sedgwick County residents from mosquito-borne illness. The Mosquito Surveillance Technician sets up five mosquito traps at five different field locations around Sedgwick County each Monday evening and collects, packages, and ships mosquitoes to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for identification and testing each Tuesday morning. The Mosquito Surveillance Technician assists with mosquito surveillance data analysis and maintains a good working relationship with internal partners, community partners and the public.

Minimum Qualifications: Two courses in biological sciences. High school Diploma or equivalent. Six months of biology-related field experience through school or work. Per Sedgwick County policy, this is a driving level position that requires a valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with mosquito trapping.
