Summary

York Country Day School is seeking a part-time Engineering and Robotics Teacher to join our well-established Engineering and Robotics team. The ideal candidate is an independent yet highly collaborative and creative thinker, comfortable with 21st-century technology and committed to a multidisciplinary approach to teaching. This candidate will have the opportunity to build both engineering and robotics programming and work in our state-of-the-art laboratory space. Candidates must have an excellent understanding of the developmental needs of students in Preschool to grade 5 and demonstrate a passion for working with these age levels. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a rigorous academic program by developing aligned curriculum, setting clear expectations for teaching and learning, and using student assessment data to inform instruction. Supported teachers through collaboration, professional development, and ongoing feedback while implementing differentiated instructional practices to ensure that all students are appropriately challenged and supported.

This is a part-time position with a work schedule of no more than 28.5 hours per week. In addition to classroom teaching responsibilities, the employee will be responsible for assigned student supervision duties outside of class time and will be required to attend weekly staff meetings.

A successful and stimulating learning experience for all students and a professionally operated division and/or grade level to serve as a resource for the school in alignment with the school’s mission.

Examples of duties

  • Teach using a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach in the curricular area of Robotics and Engineering.
  • Design curriculum, instruct students, and provide professional development for faculty Pre-Kindergarten–5, as related to the Engineering and Robotics program.
  • Plan and implement activities that nurture and develop the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social skills of children.
  • Demonstrate the ability to observe children to assess their developmental level, interests, and needs, and use this information to facilitate learning and growth.
  • Exhibit kindness, respect, and compassion in all interactions with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Communicate knowledgeably and effectively with parents and colleagues about students and curriculum.
  • Collaborate frequently with both the Director of Robotics and Engineering and the Head of Lower School.
  • Fulfill assigned student supervision duties outside of scheduled class time.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Three years of experience in the Robotics and Engineering field.
  • Independent school experience is preferred.
