Summary

Under general supervision, the Part-Time Library Aide performs a variety of clerical and support tasks in the library, including extensive shelving and organization of materials. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality library services, support a welcoming environment for all patrons, and consistently demonstrate a positive, team-oriented attitude.

  • Support and promote the vision, core values, and communication agreements of the Victoria Public Library.
  • Deliver excellent customer service in a courteous and professional manner, fostering a positive image of the library.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve department goals.
  • Demonstrate a patron-centered approach and maintain a professional working relationship with staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Assist with programs, services, and patron experiences as assigned.
  • Help monitor library facilities to ensure an appropriate, user-friendly environment.
  • Check in materials, prepare alphabetized carts, perform inventory searches, and shelve on shift library materials as needed.
  • Follow all City and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Work is performed primarily in a standard office and library environment. The position requires frequent stretching, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing, squatting, and stooping. Employees must frequently lift up to 30 pounds and occasionally up to 45 pounds. The role also requires routinely pushing or pulling book trucks weighing up to 300 pounds.

Supplemental information

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Must have a valid State Driver’s License

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarity with general office policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Understanding of customer services principles, etiquette, and best practices.
  • Awareness of general library operations and services.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and office equipment.
  • Strong communication skills, flexibility, and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to stay organized, work effectively as part of a team, and demonstrate integrity, accountability, and quality in all tasks.

Municipality of Victoria, Texas. Victoria is located in the heart of the Golden Crescent of South Texas, equidistant from Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
