Summary of Job Responsibilities
Stewardship is the heart of PERA’s mission to provide retirement security to our members while ensuring the long-term financial sustainability of the Fund. This position supports stewardship initiatives through proxy voting, legislative and regulatory analysis, record archival, and assisting the Director of Investment Stewardship with annual reporting. Additional duties may include research or project support on an ad hoc basis. The duration of this temporary position is expected to be 20-25 hours per week and is expected to run from March 2026 – August 2026.

The ideal candidate is a dependable professional with stewardship, corporate governance, ESG research, or public equity investing experience who is analytical, detail-oriented, and focused on building constructive professional relationships. Integrity, effective time management, independent analysis, quality decision-making, collaboration, critical thinking, external awareness, accuracy, and appropriate communication skills are essential. The ideal candidate will use their unique strengths and skillset to support PERA’s investment stewardship as we pursue the long-term financial sustainability of the Fund for the ultimate benefit of plan participants and beneficiaries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Employees are held accountable for all duties of the job. Individuals must be able to perform these duties with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Formulate and execute proxy votes in compliance with the PERA Board’s Proxy Voting Policy
- Analyze management and shareholder proposals, escalating complex proposals to the Director of Investment Stewardship for peer review
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of PERA’s proxy voting activities
- Monitor voting activity, resolving or escalating any issues appropriately and in a timely manner
- Analyze and report proxy voting data on routine and ad hoc bases
- Engage with PERA’s public equity investors, as appropriate, to make informed vote decisions
- Track legislative and regulatory developments and analyze their potential impacts to PERA’s portfolio and stewardship
- Manage records of legislative and regulatory advocacy opportunities, organize and archive analysis and public comment records
- Verify data for annual stewardship reporting
- Build and maintain productive business relationships
- Uphold PERA’s mission, fiduciary duty, and responsible investment approach
- Maintain prompt and regular attendance in the workplace
- Fulfill other duties as assigned
Job

Qualifications
- 4+-year degree in finance, economics, business administration, corporate law, or related field; 3-5 years of relevant experience in investment stewardship, corporate governance, or shareholder rights; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proven track record of successfully implementing custom proxy voting policies and reporting
- Broad knowledge of financial markets, investment instruments, processes, and data
- Broad knowledge of legislative and regulatory processes, with experience analyzing bills and rulemaking proposals and their potential impacts
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate with numerous market participants in a complex and fast-paced environment
- Qualitative and quantitative reasoning skills with the ability to identify patterns, risks, benefits, and potential outcomes
- Self-motivation and the ability to independently fulfill multiple priorities through effective time and workflow management
- Customer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizing and record management skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency using proxy voting platforms and cloud-based and Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint

- Standard office environment with frequent telephone communication, computer operation, and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy and printer machine.

Hybrid Work Option
