Nevada State University actively maintains an open pool of qualified individuals to be selected on an as-needed basis by the department to fulfill part-time temporary instructional needs and applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Nevada State invites applications for an open pool of adjunct faculty for in-person, online, or hybrid courses in NSU’s Workforce Development programs

Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis determined by programand/or course availability.

Adjunct faculty members are compensated at the rate of $1,000-1,200 per credit hour equivalent, dependent on instructional level, and subject matter expertise, with courses ranging from 1-6 credits.

As the non-credit education division of Nevada State University, Workforce Development delivers professional development, continuing education, industry-aligned training, stackable micro-credentials, certificates, and digital badges designed to support learners at various stages of their educational and professional journeys. Programs are intentionally designed to build upon participants’ prior learning, workforce experience, technical education, and career goals while responding to emerging industry and community needs.

The department offers a broad portfolio of programs serving both adult and youth learners through flexible, accelerated, and applied learning formats. Professional and continuing education programs provide in-demand knowledge and workforce skills through short-form and modular course offerings lasting up to 15 weeks and made up of 3-6 short courses taught by one or more instructors. Youth programs support the growth and development of learners through engaging, interdisciplinary educational experiences that promote academic exploration, career awareness, and workforce readiness through programs scheduled as week-long courses.

Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific content areas, instructional approaches, and program concepts they would be interested in developing and/or teaching as part of the application and interview process.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Confer with Workforce Development staff to discuss program goals, course objectives, course material, and assessments.
  • Develop course objectives and deliver a curriculum that utilizes innovative classroom techniques and methodologies to offer students challenging learning opportunities.
  • Engage students in learning activities throughout the entirety of the course to enhance their learning and skill development.
  • Complete skill and project assessments to highlight successful completion of course.
  • Monitor student success and address inadequate progress with applicable individuals.
  • Network with college and community resources to include creative active-learning experiences.
  • Participate in program development meetings and coordinate with instructional designer to develop web-based content.
  • Improve program delivery through continuous improvement of course(s).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Youth Programs High School diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
  • Professional & Continuing Education Programs Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years of related industry experience with appropriate industry-recognized certification(s) in the teaching area, or closely-related field.
  • Demonstrated evidence of effective interpersonal, communication, organizational, and technology skills.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to teaching, mentorship, educational excellence, and learner success.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging instructional experiences for diverse learner populations, which may include youth learners, adult professionals, or mixed-experience audiences.
  • Positions involving minors require successful completion of a criminal background investigation conducted by the University.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate or terminal degree in the teaching area(s) or closely related field plus significant industry, professional, leadership, creative, technical, or executive-level experience relevant to the instructional discipline.
  • Previous teaching, training, facilitation, mentoring, or curriculum development experience with youth and/or adult learners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning, applied instruction, innovative teaching methodologies, and inclusive educational practices.
  • Competency with learning management systems and web-based instructional platforms, including experience supporting in-person, hybrid, and/or online learning environments.
  • Experience integrating workforce readiness, career exploration, interdisciplinary learning, or industry applications into instructional delivery.
