CNM faculty are vital to the College’s vision of “changing lives, building community.” This vision is evidenced by a commitment to teaching and learning that supports our goals of student success, increased student retention, and improved graduation rates. Faculty are responsible for providing high quality instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners so that each student may meet course outcomes and achieve their educational goals. An instructor is responsible for providing high quality instruction so that each student may meet course outcomes. Collaborate with the Dean and colleagues to improve the student learning experience. Being hired into the regular part-time instructor pool is not a guarantee of employment. Classes are assigned on an as-needed basis. Hours will vary each class and by term. The number of openings for instructors is dependent upon student enrollment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in History (or closely related field with at least 18 graduate hours in History) from an accredited institution (must be conferred before beginning instruction)
Minimum of two semesters of recent college instructional experience in lower division History OR documented completion of college teaching or college classroom management training.
Preferences:
Experience teaching at institutions with diverse student populations or experience working in educational programs focused on marginalized communities.
Experience teaching surveys of Western Civilization in a post-secondary teaching environment.
Experience implementing digital humanities practices and/or experience implementing practices guided by critical pedagogy or other equity pedagogies in History instruction.
Experience utilizing a variety of teaching methods including lecture, collaborative learning, and individualized instruction, and experience teaching in hybrid or online teaching in either synchronous or asynchronous modes.
Experience relating and explaining complex subject matter to first- and second-year college students.
