Brightpoint Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and is one of the largest of Virginia’s 23 community colleges. The college is located within the Greater Richmond metropolitan area. It serves students and the community at its two campuses, in Chester and Midlothian; online; and in locations throughout its service area. Brightpoint Community College invites applications for the Part-Time Help Hub Advisor position. This position will support student success, including advising continuing students, providing transfer support and outreach with transfer partners to improve retention through collaboration with faculty and staff and connection to college resources. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: advising students (continuing, and as needed, new students), manage a caseload of students as the result of Early Alerts and/or retention initiatives, and support success of all students to include providing services in the Help Hub, transfer advising/fairs, and new student orientation

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience.
  • Prior advising at a college or university is preferred.
  • Candidates must be able to effectively use standard office electronic communication and student information systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of PeopleSoft, Navigate, Canvas and Microsoft Office preferred. Adept at learning new technologies.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills, demonstrate initiative and be student success focused. Cultural competency with experience working with diverse populations.
  • Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule, including working on either campus, some evenings, occasional weekends, and teleworking, if required.
  • Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check is required.

Additional Considerations
  • Experience in teaching, presenting workshops, and/or advising in an academic setting is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
