Summary

The purpose of this position is responsible for the safe operation of an aircraft as pilot in command while performing daytime and nighttime aerial spray missions, applying public health insecticides. Aircraft consists of an OV-10 Bronco (operated under public use) and a MD-500D/Hughes 369D (operated under public use).

This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Examples of duties

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

• Operates mosquito control aircraft during day and night while applying insecticides
• Provides pre- and post-flight checks.
• Assists with the service, maintenance, or repair of aircraft and spray equipment.
• Maintains compliance with applicable FAA regulations/directives and State/Federal pesticide regulations and record keeping.
• Must have intermediate computer skills and have the ability to learn and operate internal programs.
• Must be able to read and understand chemical labeling instructions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
• Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 1,500 hours of total flight time (Flight qualifications must be approved by insurance carrier)
• 500 hours of helicopter time with 100 hours in a turbine-powered helicopter
• Experience operating aircraft using night vision goggles (NVG)

Supplemental information

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
