Performs community education, administrative, and operational support functions for the Fire Department on a part-time basis; assists with public safety initiatives, equipment management, and departmental events; performs related work as required.

Examples of duties

1. Provides fire safety education and outreach to the public.
2. Installs smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in residential properties.
3. Assists with planning and participation in community and public events.
4. Provides administrative support to Fire Department staff.
5. Assists the Quartermaster with inventory management and equipment tracking.
6. Transports equipment and supplies as assigned.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education is equivalent to completion of high school.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and departmental staff.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, for public events.
• Ability and willingness to represent the City of Flint Fire Department professionally in public settings.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S):

• Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Michigan Driver's license.

Applicants must have a safe and responsible driving record. Candidates will not be considered if they have multiple accidents, excessive violations, a current suspension or disqualification, or a major violation (DUI, reckless driving, vehicular homicide, or endangerment) within the past seven (7) years.
