Job Description

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) and the Division of Graduate and Continuing Education welcome passionate educators to join our team as a part-time adjunct faculty members. UMF's Division of Graduate and Continuing Education provides a high-quality learning experience with educators respected in their fields.

The following courses may be offered to part-time faculty members during the 2026-2027 academic year

PSY 540 - Diagnosis and Treatment

This course will provide students with an understanding of psychopathology, the utilization of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders in clinical practice, assessment, and intervention of mental health diagnoses. Students will learn to conceptualize mental health disorders and their etiologies within various schools of counseling theory, including how assessment (e.g., intake interviews) informs the process of diagnosis and treatment planning. Additionally, students will identify ethical issues related to research and practice, the various definitions of normality and abnormality, and the significant impact of culture and diversity on diagnosis and treatment planning.

Part-time temporary faculty members may be rehired in subsequent semesters based on course availability, schedule, funding, and performance. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lesson planning
  • Assignment design
  • Grading
  • Correspondence with students
  • Course coordination meetings
  • Required orientation and training (i.e., compliance training)

While the courses in this program have a weekly or every-other-week campus class meeting, positions also require the use of the UMS learning management system (Brightspace) to host all course materials and discussions not held face-to-face.

Technology Requirements:

Part-time faculty members teaching at the University of Maine at Farmington are required to have the appropriate technology to teach in a fully online environment. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Computer (laptop) with an appropriate amount of processing speed
  • High-speed internet connection
  • Webcam
  • Microphone

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in counseling psychology and LCPC licensure in the State of Maine
  • Practice as an LCPC for a minimum of 5 years, with no more than 2 years of practice as a conditionally licensed

    clinician
  • Academic preparation adequate for the courses to be taught

Preferred:

  • PsyD, PhD in Psychology, and Licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Maine
  • Current experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health problems
  • Teaching across different modalities (i.e., online, hybrid, in-person)

Salary & Benefits:

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a per-credit-hour basis, commensurate with qualifications, experience, and in accordance with the Maine Part-Time Faculty Association (PATFA) contract. Teaching opportunities in future semesters are based on course funding, performance, need,s and availability. Continuation is subject to the terms of the PATFA bargaining agreement and other applicable university policies.
