POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW

The College of Performing Arts, which includes the Mannes School of Music, the School of Drama, and Mannes Prep, at The New School are seeking highly qualified candidates to join their roster of Part-Time Faculty. This is an Academics Come Together, United Auto Workers, Local 7902 unit position as per the collective bargaining agreement between ACT-UAW, Local 7902 and the University.

Formed in 2015, the College of Performing Arts draws together the Mannes School of Music, the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, the School of Drama, and Mannes Prep. College of Performing Arts students and faculty are actors, musicians, performers, writers, improvisers, creative technologists, entrepreneurs, composers, arts managers, and multidisciplinary artists. Our community collaborates with colleagues across The New School in a wide array of disciplines, from the visual arts and fashion design, to the social sciences, public policy, advocacy, and more.

CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching graduate and/or undergraduate students within a defined field of expertise

  • Developing and managing course syllabi and ensuring that syllabi meet Program and School standards

  • Planning and creating lectures, discussions, and course assignments

  • Assessing student learning outcomes and aiding student success

  • Submitting grades in a timely manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated success as a creative, teaching, and/or performing artist, with significant professional accomplishments and accolades

  • 2-3 years of experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives, preferably in a College, University, and/or Conservatory settings

  • Ability to work with diverse students and colleagues, fostering inclusive classroom environments

  • Proven track record with achieving learning outcomes as defined by curriculum and course syllabi

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An advanced, or terminal degree in the field of specialty (MM, MA, MFA, DMA, PH.D or equivalent)

WORK MODE

This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. #LI-Onsite

SALARY RANGE

ACT-UAW 7902 Part-Time Faculty are compensated at the following minimum hourly rates for the duration of the 2025-26 Academic Year:

  • Lecture/Seminar/Discussion/Executive Education/Mannes College - $151.00

  • Studio/Lab/Chamber Music - $127.50

  • Non-Credit/Pre-College (K-12) - $115.00

  • Mannes Prep - $115.00

Rates are subject to increase per contractual obligations as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ACT-UAW 7902 and The New School.
