Job Description

Facility Cleaner – Food Catering Facility

Tullamarine & Somerton | Afternoon/Evening | Part Time | Multiple rosters available

About the Role

As a Facility Cleaner, you’ll support the smooth cleaning operation at one of our clients’ food catering facilities, working closely with chefs and production teams to make sure kitchens and food assembly areas are clean at all times.

You’ll be responsible for cleaning amenities, office space, floors, kitchen areas and appliances, managing bins and completing end-of-day cleaning duties.

This is an afternoon/late evening role, ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work and is comfortable in a food catering environment. You’ll be part of a team but will also need to confidently complete tasks independently and take pride in the standard of your work. Some parts of the role may be physically demanding.

Location and roster:

  • Melbourne Airport/Tullamarine and Somerton locations
  • Afternoon and late evening shifts (approx. 4 to 5 hour shifts)
  • Multiple different rosters available across 7 days

Why Join Challenger?

  • Consistent hours – Enjoy steady afternoon and evening shifts across multiple roster options.
  • Regular pay – Join an established national company with reliable work.
  • Early wage access – Access your earned wages when you need them through our tailored app.
  • Employee discounts – Access discounts with major retailers including Woolworths, Amazon and more.
  • Great team environment – Work alongside a friendly and supportive team.
  • Opportunities to grow – We promote from within and support people who want to develop their careers.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your day-to-day work will mainly involve:

  • Supporting chefs and production staff by cleaning general amenities, cool rooms and fridges, dry stores, warehouse areas and kitchen appliances, ensuring all areas are ready for audits and day-to-day inspections.
  • Cleaning kitchen and meal assembly areas and equipment, including benches, work areas, stoves, grill plates, ovens, bratt pans and deep fryers, in line with required hygiene and quality standards.
  • Cleaning office spaces and amenities, keeping them hygienic, stocked and presentable.
  • Cleaning floors, including sweeping, mopping and scrubbing.
  • Managing waste, including emptying and cleaning bins and removing waste to designated areas.
  • Completing end-of-day cleaning duties so the facility is ready for the next production shift.
  • Following HACCP, WHS and chemical handling requirements at all times.
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, breakages or maintenance issues to your supervisor.
  • Working with your team to maintain a high standard throughout every shift.

About You

We’re looking for people with a good attitude who are reliable, safety conscious and comfortable with hands-on work.

You’ll ideally:

  • Be comfortable with physically demanding work, including standing for long periods, lifting, bending, scrubbing heavy-duty equipment and working in hot, wet and cold environments.
  • Have experience in kitchen cleaning, food production or a similar food environment – highly regarded, but not essential if you’re keen to learn.
  • Be reliable and punctual, available for afternoon and late evening shifts on your chosen roster, and able to travel to Tullamarine and/or Somerton.
  • Take pride in your work and have strong attention to detail, with an understanding of why hygiene matters in a food production environment.
  • Be comfortable with hands-on work, including being on your feet and working around kitchen equipment, cool rooms and wet floors.
  • Work well independently and as part of a team, following cleaning schedules, procedures and instructions.
  • Be safety conscious, including using cleaning chemicals and equipment correctly and reporting hazards or issues when identified.
