Job Description

Help Make Every Route Part of Someone’s Day

Reliable transportation can be the connection that helps a person participate in a vocational program, stay engaged in the community, and maintain greater independence. The Arc of Ocean County is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Driver to provide consistent transportation for participants while creating a respectful and welcoming experience along the way.

This part-time opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys driving, values working independently, and takes pride in being someone others can count on. You’ll play an important role in helping participants get where they need to go safely and on time.

Position Snapshot

  • Location: Ocean County, New Jersey
  • Pay: Starting at $20.70 per hour
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday
    • Morning Route: Approximately 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM
    • Afternoon Route: Approximately 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM
    • Approximately 20 hours per week
    • Hours vary based on assigned transportation routes
  • Employment Type: Part-Time
  • Department: Vocational Services

Paid Training From Day One

You don’t have to arrive with experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. Previous experience is beneficial but not required, and paid on-the-job training is provided to help you develop the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

Your Role on the Road

Safe, Reliable Transportation

  • Drive agency vehicles safely while transporting participants between their homes, vocational programs, and approved community destinations.
  • Apply defensive driving techniques, motor vehicle regulations, and agency transportation procedures to protect passenger safety.
  • Complete required vehicle inspections before and after routes.
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, fueled, and maintained in accordance with agency standards.
  • Report maintenance issues, route changes, scheduling updates, and incidents to supervisory staff in a timely manner.

A Positive Passenger Experience

  • Create a respectful, supportive, and welcoming atmosphere for each passenger.
  • Interact professionally with participants, families, and members of the community.
  • Represent The Arc of Ocean County positively throughout daily transportation activities.

Records, Communication & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate mileage reports, transportation logs, attendance records, and other required documentation.
  • Support regulatory compliance by keeping transportation records accurate and cooperating with inspections and audits.
  • Complete other transportation-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

What You Bring to the Role

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid New Jersey driver's license with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.
  • At least one year of consistent employment with a previous employer.
  • Ability to safely operate agency vehicles in varying driving conditions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent judgment, reliability, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background screenings, drug screenings, and agency pre-employment requirements.
  • Willingness to complete required Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) training and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
