Job Description

Make a Meaningful Impact—One Person, One Shift at a Time

As a Part-Time Direct Support Professional with The Arc of Ocean County, you'll help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live more independently and participate fully in their homes and communities. Your support may include everything from assisting with daily routines and personal care to encouraging new skills, facilitating community activities, and creating opportunities for meaningful connection.

This is a hands-on role for someone who values patience, respect, reliability, and person-centered support. Previous DSP experience is not required—we provide paid on-the-job training to help you build the knowledge and skills needed to succeed.

Position at a Glance

Employment Type: Part-Time
Available Shifts:

  • Evening Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Overnight Shift: 11:00 PM – 9:00 AM
  • Weekend Day & Evening Shifts Available
  • Weekend Availability Required

Pay: $20.70 – $24.70 per hour
Pay Schedule: Bi-Weekly

  • Shift Differential Opportunities

Where You'll Make an Impact

Daily Life & Independence

  • Provide assistance with personal care, meal preparation, medication administration, housekeeping, laundry, and other daily routines.
  • Help individuals strengthen practical life skills, make everyday choices, and develop greater independence.
  • Contribute to a clean, comfortable, and welcoming residential environment.

Community Participation & Connection

  • Support individuals during recreational events, appointments, shopping trips, volunteer opportunities, and other community activities.
  • Encourage social interaction and meaningful involvement in community life.
  • Safely transport individuals in agency vehicles when assigned.

Person-Centered Support

  • Provide individualized assistance that reflects each person's goals, abilities, and specific support needs.
  • Respond to behavioral, medical, and emotional challenges with patience, professionalism, and respect.
  • Uphold the dignity, privacy, and rights of every person receiving services.

Communication, Documentation & Teamwork

  • Complete accurate electronic records, including daily progress notes, medication records, and other required program documentation.
  • Maintain effective communication with coworkers, supervisors, families, healthcare professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Follow agency policies and residential procedures to support quality services and regulatory compliance.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High School Diploma or GED required.
    • Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) points.
    • Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
    • Ability to perform the physical responsibilities of the position, including assisting individuals with mobility and completing household tasks as needed.

Preferred

    • Demonstrated employment stability preferred, including at least one (1) year with a previous employer.
