The Dentist provides dental health care to eligible individuals. The Dentist supports the CRCHC mission to assure access of the underserved to healthcare, to engage patients in a meaningful healthcare experience through the patient-centered health home model, to provide high-quality healthcare and to participate in controlling the cost of such care. The Dentist will achieve meaningful use of electronic health records each year as the standards are updated and expanded by the federal government to the extent that dental electronic health records are available.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions in the English language. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to interact in a caring and professional manner with patients, staff, and other internal and external customers. Responsible for administering a program of primary and preventative dental care in a community health center setting. Must be able to work in a Patient Centered Medical Home model. Must be able to commute independently between CRCHC sites.
• Experience: Previous experience desirable but not essential
• Additional skills required: Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental health care. Excellent leadership and coaching skills. Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team. Able to effectively utilize an electronic health record to document all patient encounters.
• Additional skills preferred: English, Spanish a plus.
Education: Graduate of a United States accredited School of Dentistry
Certification(s)/Licensure: Current and unrestricted state of North Carolina license as Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD)

Key Responsibilities
1. Provides dental care for the patients by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums

2. Responsible for educating patients on oral health care.
3. Makes visual examination of the patients teeth and surrounding oral structures, utilizing x-rays, mouth mirror, explorer, instrument and other diagnostic procedures, enters findings on a dental chart in patients’ medical record; decides upon and carries completion most feasible plan of treatment.
4. Assist with treatment options and agreeing treatment plans for patients.
5. Locates and repairs cavities on teeth.
6. Extracts impacted, infected, or otherwise diseased or troublesome teeth or perform root canal work.
7. Makes impressions and models of jaw and mouth in preparation for dentures.
8. Treats disease of teeth, gums, and mouth with appropriate drugs or by surgery.
9. Markets services to potential patients.
10. Manages budgets and maintains stocks of equipment.
11. Maintains patient’s dental records.
12. Examines individuals requesting care, diagnose their dental/oral conditions, prescribe and carry out or direct others to carry appropriate dental/oral treatment.
13. Refers individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical protocols and guidelines.
14. Educates individuals in the nature of oral health related conditions and in the general promotion of oral health related disease prevention.
15. Performs other duties as assigned
