Job Description

Starting Rate: $16.32 per hour Dauphin County Facility Maintenance is currently accepting applications for the part time custodian position. The individual in this role is responsible for but not limited to performing the following essential functions:

  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums or scrubs floors; and shampoos carpeted areas.
  • Cleans furniture, bathrooms, windows, walls, and fixtures.
  • Collects and properly disposes of trash, garbage and recyclables.
  • Disinfects specified areas as required.
  • Replenishes all bathroom supplies.
  • Notifies maintenance workers of any needed plumbing or maintenance repairs.
  • Operates cleaning equipment.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

  1. Receives occasional instruction and some supervision from Supervisor in regard to daily duties.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

  1. None.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Works indoors in adequate workspace, lighting, temperatures and ventilation.

  2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions.

  3. Below normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.

  4. Exposure to cleaning supplies and chemicals daily.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS:

  1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.

  2. Must be able to walk, stand, twist and bend for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional kneeling, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping as necessary to carry out duties of job.

  3. Light work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with weights of twenty to thirty pounds.

QUALIFICATIONS

A.EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  1. Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program plus a valid PA driver's license.

    B.WORK EXPERIENCE:

  2. 6-12 months working experience in custodial environment preferred.

Other Requirements:

A valid driver's license and a positive driving record are required.

OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:

  1. Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.

  2. Must possess ability to handle the use of chemicals and cleaning materials.

  3. Must possess ability to operate various equipment such as vacuum cleaner, carpet extractor, floor scrubber, etc.

  4. Must possess willingness to travel to other County buildings as needed or assigned.

  5. Must be able to pass criminal background check.
