The Part-Time Cashier performs the following functions:
  • Cashiering and Payment Processing - Receives and processes tuition, fees, departmental receipts, and other payments made by cash, check, credit card, electronic transaction, or approved third-party source. Issues receipts, applies payments to the appropriate accounts, processes refunds and returned payments as assigned, and safeguards funds and payment information.
  • Student and Customer Account Support - Assists students, employees, and other customers with questions concerning account balances, payment activity, due dates, payment options, holds, and related College processes. Reviews account information, explains transactions and requirements, resolves routine concerns, and refers complex matters to the appropriate office or staff member.
  • Daily Reconciliation and Deposit Preparation - Balances daily cashiering activity and reconciles receipts, system totals, payment batches, and supporting documentation. Researches and reports discrepancies, prepares funds and records for deposit, and maintains appropriate separation and control of financial transactions.
  • Records and Compliance - Maintains accurate cashiering, deposit, refund, and account records in accordance with College procedures, records-retention requirements, and applicable financial controls. Protects confidential student, financial, and payment-card information and supports audit and reconciliation requests.
  • Business Office Support - Provides administrative and operational support to the Business Office, including processing routine account adjustments, assisting with registration and payment deadlines, preparing correspondence and reports, and supporting other financial services activities as assigned. Participates in cross-training to promote consistent and timely customer service.

Examples of duties

High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of professional experience in cashiering, payment processing, bookkeeping, accounting support, financial recordkeeping, or a related customer service environment.

Qualifications

Associate degree in accounting, business, finance, or a related field and at least two years of experience in cashiering, student accounts, payment processing, or financial services. Experience working in higher education and using enterprise resource planning, student information, or electronic payment systems is preferred.
