Job Description

The Social and Behavioral Sciences Concentration at Soka University of America (SUA) invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Economics for the Fall 2026 semester, with the possibility of continuation into Spring 2027, contingent upon program needs, enrollment, and teaching performance.

The successful candidate will teach Principles of Economics (ECON 100) and Statistics in Fall 2026. The Fall 2026 course schedule is expected to include two class meetings per week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. and 3:00–4:30 p.m. If the appointment continues into Spring 2027, the instructor may teach Regression Analysis and Economic Development

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Economics Applicants who have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation will also be considered. Prior teaching experience, especially at the undergraduate level, is preferred.

The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to engage students in class settings that foster meaningful intellectual inquiry, active learning, and critical thinking. Given the interdisciplinary nature of SUA’s curriculum and the absence of traditional departmental boundaries, students may enter economics courses with varied academic preparation. Candidates should therefore be prepared to teach students from multiple disciplinary, cultural, national, and ideological perspectives, and to employ a range of teaching strategies that support students’ intellectual growth.

Experience teaching and mentoring a diverse student body, along with a commitment to inclusive pedagogy, is essential. Candidates should demonstrate responsiveness toward and understanding of diverse student backgrounds and a commitment to SUA’s mission to develop global citizens.

Salary: The anticipated salary range for this position is $5,931 - $7,500 per course and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
