Description

The Division of Parole Board Support Services is hiring for a Parole Board Specialist I. This position will
assist with providing information to the Parole Board members that will be utilized in their decision-making
regarding the possibility of parole for eligible inmates. Employees within this position may report to the
Parole Board Specialist II, the Justice Program Administrator, or the Division Director.

This important position is highly detailed-oriented and has monthly deadlines. You will be working in the
Department of Corrections’ Central Office, the work is completed on the computer and is typically solitary.

Responsibilities included, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Attention to Detail and Detail oriented
  • Meeting multiple hard deadlines each month and the communication with supervisors about meeting these
    deadlines.
  • Computer usage – 100% of time
  • Ability to discern the interconnectedness of information
  • Follow manual or supervisors’ direction in completion of duties
  • Ability to recognize "red flags" that lead to the need for further investigation
  • Maintain an assigned caseload monthly
  • Entry level position within the criminal justice system
  • Ability to work independently

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferred Kentucky Offender Management System database knowledge, but willing to train.
  • Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments
  • Think critically, analyze information and search for data
  • Familiar with Outlook
  • Positive and helpful attitude to support the department and division as a whole
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the Parole Board Support Services and the Parole Board

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
NONE

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Current or prior Department of Corrections experience will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required education on a year- for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):
NONE

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an office setting within a correctional institution.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
