Acceptable Experience and Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation Administration, Golf Course Management, Agronomy, Turf Management, or a related field with five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience as a golf superintendent or managing a facility which includes a golf course, to include three (3) years of supervisory responsibility.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates and Licenses Required
Must have or obtain by date of hire a valid driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, with a driving record acceptable to the County of El Paso.
Two (2) year degree or certificate in turf management or related field.
Pesticide application license.
In order toaccess into the County’s network and systems, a personal smart device is required by the hire start date.
Essential Duties
Supervises and performs day to day field operations for maintenance of golf course, clubhouse, and maintenance warehouse;
Supervises department employees, including assigning and reviewing work, monitor training sessions, conduct performance evaluations, and hire, terminate, and discipline personnel;
Motivates and works with employees to correct deficiencies; Manage the career development and performance of staff assigned;
Attends and participates in meetings, training, and informational sessions;
Demonstrate leadership and ability to deliver efficiency and quality at the highest of standards;
Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field;
Orders, reviews and approves materials required for the day to day operations of the golf course and warehouse operations;
Directs related maintenance work;
Oversees, reviews, and maintains performance of equipment operations, the preventive and light maintenance of equipment assigned to the maintenance warehouse;
Maintains records involving personnel, equipment and supplies, and schedules indicating the application of fertilizers, sprays, and other chemicals;
Assists in the preparation of reports detailing personnel work hours and usage of equipment;
Interacts with various vendors in regards to turf maintenance and golf course supplies;
Provides budget for designated areas to include turf maintenance, clubhouse operations, warehouse maintenance and equipment assigned to the maintenance warehouse;
Oversees, and ensures that employees provide the proper care and cultivation of shrubs, trees, and flowers; ensures that employees properly administer the application of pesticides fertilizers, fungicides, and insecticides to treat the course;
Supervises all maintenance of highly technical turf and greens on the golf course;
Supervises and maintains irrigation system, pumps, fertilizer, disease and animal control, solid waste management for irrigation system;
Oversees repairs of broken lines or valves for water systems; perform necessary repairs as needed;
Assists in the planning and development of new irrigation systems, including redesigns, and modifications of existing irrigation systems;
Substitutes, if assigned, during temporary absences by performing delegated duties sufficient tomaintaincontinuity of normal operations;
Commits self to providing excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment through cooperative team and individual efforts;
Creates a high quality work culture through participation in and emphasis on training and mentoring to develop leadership, management, and technical skills in self and all employees, including safety related training and skills.

As members of the County of El Paso Emergency Response System, all El Paso County employees are designated as Disaster Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to train on emergency response and/or perform certain emergency services.
of Position
The Golf Course Superintendent supervises and manages the operations of the golf course to include course, Maintenance warehouse, equipment, golf cart repairs, and operations clubhouse and restaurant operations. The incumbent manages the construction improvements to the golf course, and performs highly skilled turf maintenance functions on the golf course.
Minimum Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: maintenance golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use
of various fertilizers and soil conditioners, herbicides, and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and automatic irrigations systems; including wells, pumps and automatic controls; methods,
equipment, and materials used in maintaining a golf course; general repair and maintenance procedures; mixing and
administering chemicals used in the treatment of turf; computer skills; principles and practices of effective customer service; principles and practices of supervision and training; modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment to include Windows and Microsoft based products. Skill/Ability to: plan and assign work to employees; maintain records and develop work schedules; perform physical activities outdoors in varying weather conditions; effectively operate equipment used in the maintenance of golf course grounds; demonstrate leadership and ability to deliver efficiency and quality at the highest of standards; schedule, supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff; establish and maintain cooperative and effective relationships with those contacted during the course of work; pass a background investigation.
