Summary

The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Parks Maintenance Lead; full-time with benefits. This position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part-time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

Parks Operations

The Park Operations Division, consisting of 55 employees, serves a growing and diverse population of 269,123 residents. We are stewards of over 1,500 acres, containing 70 developed and undeveloped parks, 60 athletic and multi-use fields, 155 ramadas, 95 playgrounds, 26 tennis courts, 9 pickleball courts, 35 sand volleyball courts, 60 basketball courts, 2 disc golf courses, 2 racquetball courts, 1 cricket field, 63.4 miles of walking and biking trails, 4 dog parks, 26 restrooms, 1 archery range, 1 skate park, 1 BMX bike park, 2 urban fishing lakes, and many more specialty parks and trail areas. The Park Operations Division’s staff plays a critical role in the City of Chandler’s quality of life initiatives by providing safe, clean, and well-maintained parks that offer exceptional recreational experiences. Our new team members will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to lead, perform, and oversee semi-skilled and skilled level landscaping and Sports Field maintenance.

Minimum qualifications

• A High School Diploma or GED; and
• 3 years of experience in tree care and grounds maintenance; and
• A ALCA - Certified Landscape Professional Certification, Pesticide Applicator's License, a B-3 Right-of-Way/Weed Management State of Arizona Office of Pest Management Certification, a B-5 Turf & Ornamental Horticulture Pest Management State of Arizona Office of Pest Management Certification, Arizona Certified Landscape Professional Certification, within 6 months of hire or promotion date; and
• A valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Desired qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, train, and develop employees while fostering a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.
• Extensive knowledge of parks and landscape maintenance practices, including turf, trees, shrubs, groundcover, irrigation systems, playgrounds, and other park amenities.
• Experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial irrigation systems and overseeing landscape installation and improvement projects, including planting, irrigation modifications, grading, and soil preparation.
• Knowledge of proper tree care practices, including planting, pruning, staking, and identifying common tree health issues.
• Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of landscape maintenance equipment and promote safe work practices through hazard recognition and appropriate safety procedures.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and coordinate multiple maintenance projects while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with employees, the public, and other City departments, as well as learn computerized work order systems and use Microsoft Office applications.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, relevant certifications such as an Arizona Commercial Applicator License, ISA Certified Arborist certification, or Irrigation Association certification.

This is a regular full-time position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for 4 months should another position become available.

The City of Chandler will have a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
