Parks & Events Specialist

Location: Parks Administration, 12520 Ulmerton Road, Largo, FL 33774

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Under the direction of the Parks Program Coordinator, this position will serve as the liaison for weddings, primitive youth camp permitting, and assist with front desk and call center duties, and assist with development of park promotional materials.

• Coordinate special event permitting for wedding and primitive youth camps, including application processing and communication with applicants
• Communicate with applicants regarding permit requirements, rules, payments, and facility updates.
• Assist with updating the event calendars and distribute event information to appropriate staff and County departments.
• Monitor and respond to inquiries received through the Special Events inbox.
• Support the planning and execution of departmental staff events and activities.
• Develop, manage, and distribute the department’s employee newsletter.
• Design and maintain lobby slideshow presentations to communicate park and preserve information, programs, services, announcements, and events to visitors.
• Manage and maintain a centralized library of photography and videography for social media, websites, publications, newsletters, and other marketing initiatives.
• Monitor department websites for current information and report necessary revisions.
• Support marketing and promotional initiatives, including creating and producing social media reels and digital content.
• Deliver accurate Parks Department information and customer service to the public and employees in person, by telephone, and via email.
• Handle lobby desk responsibilities, including greeting visitors, receiving packages, reporting facility issues, processing daily deposits, and maintaining current brochures and informational materials lobby.
• Support call center operations by answering phones, processing campground/shelter reservations, beach and boat ramp pass transactions.
• Assist with special projects as assigned.

Position Specific Requirements

• 2 years of office support experience dealing with administrative matters, customer accounts, and service problems; general clerical and office experience in the use of computers and related office equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.

Additional Requirements

• Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

• Expertise in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and website management.
• Knowledge of SharePoint.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong organization, customer service, problem-solving, and attention to detail
• Experience with event planning, event support, or permitting.
• Ability to work independently.
• Quick learner with excellent written and communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to de-escalate conflicts
• Experience creating newsletters, flyers, presentations, or other communications.
• Comfortable on camera and willing to participate in social media reels and promotional video content.
