The Municipality of Strathroy-Caradoc is currently accepting applications for one (1) full-time, temporary “Parks and Facilities Operator.” This position is expected to last until the end of 2026. Please note this is a unionized position.

The Parks and Facilities Operator (PFO) Class 1 or 2 shall work under the technical direction and guidance of the Lead Hand and the general supervision of the Supervisor of Parks and Recreational Facilities. This position helps ensure that Legislative, Corporate and Departmental policies, procedures and standards are met. The Parks and Facilities Operator performs a variety of technical tasks related to the maintenance of all athletic fields, outdoor sports facilities, play structures, arenas, and pools as well as provides direction to part-time facility attendants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Under the technical direction of the Lead Hand, operate, inspect and maintain the Municipality’s refrigeration plants, ice surfaces, outdoor pool, splash pad, playgrounds, sports fields and related equipment as required in accordance with legislative requirements, departmental policy and procedure.
  • Perform maintenance and custodial duties for recreational facilities. Responsible for a wide variety of duties and functions.
  • Required to operate and maintain department equipment used to perform maintenance and custodial duties.
  • Purchase small items from time to time as per the Municipality’s policy.
  • Required to follow the computerized facility booking system in order to meet customer expectations and to inform administration of any discrepancies.
  • Responsible for ensuring public safety through the application of due diligence, risk management practices and governmental regulations.
  • Ensure the safe operation of municipal recreational facilities and parks by applying safe work methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for the completion of records as defined by department policies and procedures and/or other regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for the supervision of part-time facility attendants during evening and weekend shifts. Provide feedback on their performance to the Supervisor of Parks and Recreational Facilities.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of positive customer service by acting in a frontline service capacity dealing with customer facility bookings, answering questions and a variety of other interactions.
  • Liaise with a variety of stakeholders including ratepayers, customers, contractors, event organizers, inspectors, etc.
  • Assist other departments and staff with landscape maintenance and or design.
  • Participate in the planning discussions, staff meeting, and training as may be required.
  • Accept payments and handle cash in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and/or departmental practice. Assisting with the proper documentation of facility booking to ensure proper tracking of accounts.
  • Responsible for the proper utilization of Municipal property and resources in effective and efficient manner.
  • Complete accident reports, vandalism reports and customer complaint reports as may be required.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum OSSD or equivalent completed. Post-secondary diploma in a related field an asset
  • 2 years’ parks and facility maintenance operation experience is preferred
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s licence with a satisfactory driver’s abstract
  • Successful completion the Basic Refrigeration course through the ORFA considered an asset
  • ORFA Certified Ice Technician (CIT) designation an asset (required for Class 1)
  • Knowledge of the methods, procedures, principles and practices involved in the maintenance and operation of parks and recreational facilities.
  • Technical knowledge of facility maintenance, registered refrigeration plants, building construction and related components, turf management, pool operations, etc. an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to use computers and related software, and electronic controls
  • First Aid and CPR an asset
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check prior to starting employment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada

Compensation:

Wage: Class 1: $32.35/hour; Class 2: $29.18/hour (per the Collective Bargaining Agreement)
Benefits: Voluntary enrolment in the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System (OMERS) defined benefit pension plan.
