The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council is seeking an experienced and motivated leader to oversee the delivery of high-quality parks, horticulture and streetscapes services across the municipality. In this key leadership role, you will provide operational direction to frontline teams responsible for maintaining Council's parks, open spaces, streetscapes and the iconic Queens Park gardens, ensuring they remain safe, attractive and welcoming for the community. Working closely with the Head of Parks & Urban Forest, you will drive service excellence, foster a positive and high-performing team culture, and contribute to the continuous improvement of City Presentation operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of parks, horticulture and streetscapes operations to achieve high standards of presentation, cleanliness and amenity.
  • Oversee the maintenance and presentation of Queens Park gardens, ensuring horticultural excellence and an exceptional visitor experience.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operational activities, including the effective allocation of staff, contractors and resources.
  • Lead, mentor and develop Team Leaders while promoting a strong culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor operational performance, budgets and service delivery, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Council policies, occupational health and safety requirements, and service standards.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors and the community to deliver responsive and customer-focused services.

Skills & Experience

You will bring extensive experience leading parks, streetscapes, horticulture or similar operational services, ideally within local government or a comparable environment. You will have demonstrated success managing multidisciplinary teams, contractors and operational resources while fostering a positive, safe and high-performing workplace culture. A relevant qualification in horticulture, parks management or a related discipline is desirable, along with a qualification in leadership or management (or a willingness to obtain one). You will possess strong knowledge of parks maintenance practices, occupational health and safety requirements, budgeting and customer-focused service delivery, together with excellent communication, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills. A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required.
