Parking Service Center Coordinator

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full-time experience in customer service, administrative operations, higher education, healthcare, parking operations, or a related field (graduate experience may be considered). Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in higher education, healthcare, hospital, transportation, parking, or customer service operations. Experience supervising or coordinating student staff. Experience delivering customer service through in-person, virtual, phone, and/or email interactions. Experience training staff in customer service procedures, operational processes, and/or technology systems. Experience utilizing reporting tools, databases, or parking management or other operational systems.

Brief Description of Duties

The Coordinator, Parking Service Center supports the daily operation of the Service Center within the Parking Services unit of Mobility and Parking Services (MAPS), which serves students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and community members across Stony Brook’s campuses.

This position is primarily responsible for supporting customer service and parking operations for the academic campus, while also maintaining cross-training and operational knowledge related to hospital parking and service functions to ensure continuity of operations and collaborative support across all service areas.The Coordinator plays a key role in delivering high-quality customer service through both virtual and face-to-face interactions and serves as a frontline resource for resolving customer concerns, answering questions, and supporting parking-related transactions and services. The successful candidate will demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, strong communication skills, leadership ability, and an aptitude for using technology to support operational efficiency and customer engagement. The successful candidate must have experience handling customer concerns and resolving service-related issues.The Coordinator reports to the Assistant Director, Service Center and assists with daily supervision, training, operational support, and implementation of Service Center policies and procedures. Customer Service and Operations:Provide exceptional customer service to students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors, vendors, and community members through in-person, phone, email, and virtual interactions.Serve as a primary point of contact for academic campus parking services including permits, parking information, citations, appeals, account inquiries, and customer concerns.Maintain cross-training and operational knowledge related to hospital parking and Service Center functions to provide support and operational coverage as needed.Assist customers with parking management systems, online services, account access, payment processing, and general parking-related inquiries.Respond to customer concerns in a professional, timely, and solution-oriented manner and escalate complex issues when appropriate.Support daily Service Center operations to ensure efficient, accurate, and customer-focused service delivery.Assist in maintaining consistent customer service standards, operational procedures, and communication practices.Monitor Service Center communications including email and virtual customer service platforms to ensure timely responses and follow-up.Support customer outreach and communication initiatives related to parking operations, events, campus changes, and service updates.Assist with operational support for campus events, orientations, outreach activities, and special programs.Staff Training and Supervision:Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and operational support for student staff working within the Service Center.Assist with recruiting, onboarding, scheduling, training, mentoring, and evaluating student employees.Lead staff training sessions focused on customer service excellence, operational procedures, communication standards, and use of technology systems.Ensure student staff are informed of operational updates, policy changes, and customer service expectations.Monitor staff performance and provide coaching and feedback to support professional development and service quality.Promote a positive, collaborative, and customer-focused team environment.Assist with developing training materials, reference guides, and operational documentation.Support implementation of Service Center policies, procedures, and customer service standards.Administrative and Business Operations:Ensure accurate processing of processing permits, payments, citations, appeals, and related customer transactions.Support reconciliation and recordkeeping processes related to Service Center operations.Maintain accurate customer and operational records and assist with preparing reports as needed.Utilize parking management systems, databases, reporting tools, and other technology platforms to support operational efficiency and customer service.Assist with monitoring operational trends, customer feedback, and service issues to identify opportunities for improvement.Support inventory management and office operational needs.Assist with implementation of operational changes, technology updates, and process improvements.Ensure compliance with departmental procedures, university policies, and record retention requirements.Other Duties:Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:

This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
