The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.

The purpose of this position is to assist park staff in a variety of custodial/ clerical/ physical/ maintenance tasks to include answering the phone, conducting preventive maintenance to state park facilities, collecting litter and emptying the trash containers, training volunteers and new employees, cleaning various park buildings, operating and repairing equipment and performing grounds maintenance.

Job Duties:

  • Performs custodial duties necessary to maintain clean and sanitary conditions of facilities.
  • Stocks park buildings with cleaning and household supplies including soap, toilet paper, sanitary supplies, and paper towels.
  • Removes water from wet surfaces inside buildings and set out/pick up wet floor signs accordingly.
  • Cleans the interior and exterior of park facilities at site (sweeps, mops, and washes site facilities).
  • Clean cobwebs, ceiling fans, air vents, appliances, cabinet, drawers, wall, and under the beds
  • Complete routine detail cleaning of all buildings
  • Collects litter and debris and remove trash.
  • Cleans site grounds and facilities.
  • Cleans RV and camping sites including tables and grills.
  • Clean vehicles, and utility vehicles routinely and dispose trash properly
  • Secure cleaning supplies, gloves, and towels to prevent them from falling off UTV and trucks
  • Inform your supervisor timely of needed supplies
  • Assists the administrative staff with visitors.
  • Provides information and answers guests inquiries
  • Provides a high level of customer service and assists customers with inquiries.
  • Performs corrective maintenance of site's equipment including plumbing and changing breakers and power receptacles.
  • Assists other personnel in the completion of their work for the purpose of support and supplement in times of staff shortage.
  • Operates vehicles, utility vehicles, front-end mowers, weed eaters, blowers, manual pumps, lawn mowers and trimmers to carry out maintenance of the grounds and nature trail.

Position-Specific Details:

Location: Grand Isle State Park, Grand Isle, LA

Appointment Type: This position will be filled as a part-time Classified WAE, limited to 1,245 working hours in a 12 month period. **Starting Hourly Pay varies, depending on experience.**

Work Schedule: Part-time; Mon-Sun; Weekends and Holidays will be required.
