Job Description

The Naperville Park District is looking for a qualified candidate to join our park maintenance department as a Park Specialist I. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional in forestry, general landscape, or park maintenance to utilize their skills in a team environment to make a positive impact on the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide variety of park maintenance tasks including but not limited to; arboricultural maintenance, trail and natural area maintenance, playground inspections, and custodial duties.
  • Provide guidance and direction to assigned seasonal staff or volunteer groups.
  • Obtain quotes, purchase and install plant material, develop and execute a maintenance plan for park trees and shrub beds, perform required pruning, mulching, and removal of trees.
  • Assist with natural area maintenance, prescribed burning, and invasive removal.
  • Winter duties to include snow removal on assigned sidewalks and trails
  • Clean and maintain parks through litter pickup, garbage removal, recycling activities, and conduct scheduled inspections to district amenities as assigned.
  • Support special event set up, tear down and maintenance during the event.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the methods and of forestry, turf, and horticulture development and maintenance.
  • Demonstrate abilities to apply fertilizers and pesticides at manufacturer's application rates.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in parks and grounds maintenance, or an
  • equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certification and Licenses:

  • Must hold a valid Class D driver's license
  • Must possess CPR/First Aid certificates within six months of hiring, provided by the Park District
  • Valid State of Illinois Pesticide Operator and Applicator License in ornamentals or right-of-way or the ability to obtain the license within six months of employment

Special Considerations:

  • This position is subject to a post offer physical.

Hiring Rate: $22.11 - $22.50
