Job Duties
  • This position has the ranking of Captain in the Park Safety & Enforcement Division.
  • Responsible for the operational, professional and staff effectiveness of a recognized shift within Park Safety and Enforcement Division of the Parks Department. The employee supervises seven to eight full-time Park Rangers and up to three (3) contracted employees assigned to a specific shift or park district.
  • Maintains a safe park environment while on routine patrol; provides advance emergency care as required.
  • Plans and coordinates daily work assignments for Rangers, writes reports, and researches issues related to park safety and enforcement.
  • Provides Continuing Education hours training for Park Rangers, conducts other training sessions, and takes part in the recruitment, hiring, and discipline of associates.
  • Coordinates work and provides support services to other divisions in the Department and to local law enforcement agencies as required
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or its equivalent.
  • Four years of experience as a law enforcement officer; prefer supervisory experience and experience as a Park Ranger.
  • Must not be worse than 20/200 vision, correctable to 20/20.
  • Must have and maintain a Class "A" certification from Missouri Department of Public Safety Police Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST).
  • Must complete, with a certificate, at least one additional course per year, as noted on development plan attached to annual performance plan. Areas of concentration for course selection would be from areas of employee performance management, planning and organization, law enforcement training instruction, or a technical skill area such as computer applications or American Red Cross First Aid/CPR instructor.
  • Must not have been convicted of or plead guilty to a felony or serious misdemeanor and pass motor vehicle records check.
  • Must possess/maintain valid Driver’s License.
  • Must submit to/pass pre-employment background check, psychological exams, and drug screen.
