The Riverside County Regional Park and Open Space District is seeking a Park Maintenance Supervisor - Parks located in Jurupa.
The Park Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in providing training and day-to-day supervision to Park Maintenance Workers while overseeing a variety of projects across Western Riverside County on lands managed or owned by Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District. They coordinate closely with the Park Ranger Supervisor and are responsible for creating, tracking, executing, and reporting project work lists. The incumbent will conduct maintenance patrols of management sites on foot or in a 4x4 vehicle, interact with individuals encountered in the field, perform habitat restoration, repair fences, and remove debris left behind from abandoned encampments. This position provides on-site leadership, ensures quality control, and offers guidance to staff during complex or multi-phase projects. Additionally, the Park Maintenance Supervisor - Parks collaborates with staff to prioritize projects in a manner that protects natural resources and ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Competitive candidates will possess knowledge of encampment removal policies and proper storage of personal property, an understanding of regulations and enforcement related to County Code, Game Code, and Ordinances, and knowledge of GIS applications, including ArcGIS mapping. Experience maintaining heavy equipment and trailers, training staff on heavy-equipment practices and PPE, interpreting and explaining park policies and County ordinances, reviewing plans and specifications for park site projects, and reading mapping and jurisdictional boundaries is highly desirable. Possession of a Class A California driver’s license is a plus.
The Park Maintenance Supervisor - Parks is a supervisory level classification and reports to the Natural Resources Manager. Incumbents are assigned to a County park area which has intensive maintenance needs due to having numerous recreational and camping facilities, heavy public use, and extensive development.
Work Schedule: This position follows a 9/80 schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and every other non-pay week Friday off. Availability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime will be required to support special events and to meet departmental operational needs.

• Plan, schedule, assign, supervise, evaluate and participate in the work of staff engaged in the maintenance of a park area; train subordinate personnel in departmental practices, policies, and procedures; perform, and direct staff in the performance of minor construction, maintenance, and repair of park structures, facilities, and grounds.
• Assist in reviewing plans and specifications for park site projects, recommend modifications, and provide technical guidance to staff to ensure plan conformance.
• Participate in hiring, promoting, disciplining, and terminating subordinate personnel.
• Answer public inquiries, forwarding complaints or issues to supervisor; provide assistance in emergency situations.
• Inspect park areas to evaluate existing conditions, determine areas needing maintenance or improvement work, and identify more efficient operational procedures, or correctional actions needed to minimize safety hazards.
• Discuss work projects with supervisor and lead workers; provide information on anticipated equipment, supply and personnel needs for budget purposes.
• Prepare reports and maintain accurate records on materials, equipment, and personnel usage; request equipment and supplies; inform supervisor on progress of work.
Qualifications
OPTION I
Experience: Four years of performing skilled and semi-skilled building and ground maintenance work which includes two years in a park or closely related setting. (College level courses from an accredited college or university may substitute for up to two years of the non-specialized experience on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)
OPTION II
Experience: One year as a Lead Park Maintenance Worker with the County of Riverside.
ALL OPTIONS
Knowledge of: Park policies and procedures; principles of supervision; the methods, tools, and materials used in park maintenance and construction work; groundskeeping and the care and propagation of plants, ground cover, shrubs, and trees; procedures and safety techniques used in performing maintenance and minor construction projects.
Ability to: Identify needed repairs or maintenance work; plan, supervise, and inspect the work of park staff; train and motivate staff members in all phases of park maintenance work, safety techniques, and courteous dealing with the public; prepare cost and material estimates, requisitions, and reports; communicate effectively; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License is required.
Physical ExposuresExtensive walking for 5 to 8 hours per day, along with periods of sitting and typing. Kneeling and bending are required when working and moving objects or equipment, and the ability to lift and carry 90 lbs is necessary.
Environmental Exposures: This position requires the Park Maintenance Supervisor to work in inclement weather conditions such as excessive heat, cold, and rain, and also includes exposure to dust, drug paraphernalia, and hazardous materials such as feces, paint, oils, etc. The supervisor may interact with or come across wildlife while performing field duties.
For positions designated by the DOT as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to complete a DOT mandated alcohol and drug-screening. (A positive test or refusal to test during the past two years will disqualify an applicant from consideration for County employment). Reference checks from former DOT regulated employers are also required.
Employees in safety-sensitive positions are subject to DOT alcohol/drug testing in the following situations: random, reasonable suspicion/cause, return-to-duty, and post-accident.
