The Park Maintenance Lead performs the maintenance, repair and minor construction needs for the County Parks and Recreation Department to ensure that the County's athletic fields, basketball, bocce, and tennis courts are in proper and safe condition. This position involves performing a variety of tasks such as maintaining parks and athletic fields by mowing, dragging, irrigating, lining off, and manicuring; mowing and trimming grass with power mowers and string trimmers; applies weed killer, herbicides, and pesticides; cleaning and maintaining all buildings and shelters; painting as necessary; performing minor maintenance on equipment; and erecting or constructing facilities for special events. The Park Maintenance Lead also supervises Park Maintenance Assistants and/or part-time staff employees which involves such duties as instructing, assigning, and reviewing work, maintaining standards, reporting on employee issues, selecting new employees.
Requires an associate degree in turf and landscape management or related field. Also requires three years of experience in labor-intensive maintenance work; or any combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Must obtain Public Operator Pesticide Applicator’s License within one year of employment.
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including tractors, lawn mowers, welders, rakes, and power and hand tools etc. Must be able to exert up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
