The Paratransit Supervisor provides frontline supervision and oversight of paratransit personnel to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable delivery of service. This role reports directly to the Paratransit Operations Manager and works closely with the Director of Safety & Risk Management to support safety initiatives, training oversight, audits, investigations, and policy enforcement.
The Paratransit Supervisor is responsible for monitoring employee performance, enforcing company policies, supporting onboarding and training programs, conducting audits and investigations, and addressing safety and service issues as they arise, while maintaining close coordination between Operations and Safety leadership.
Responsibilities:
Training & Program Coordination
- Coordinate, deliver, and oversee classroom-based, scheduled, and remedial training programs for paratransit personnel in accordance with Medtrans policies and applicable local, county, state, and contractual requirements.
- Support onboarding, required training, and remediation for new and existing paratransit employees through structured classroom instruction, documentation review, and program oversight.
- Ensure training content, scheduling, and oversight aligning with operational standards, safety objectives, ADA requirements, and service delivery expectations, while coordinating with Operations and Safety leadership.
Field Training Officer (FTO) Program Oversight
- Oversee the Paratransit Field Training Officer (FTO) program, ensuring consistency, accountability, and compliance.
- Assist in the selection, onboarding, and evaluation of FTOs.
- Assign trainees to FTOs and monitor training progress through documentation review.
- Collect, review, and evaluate Field Training Reports and trainee performance records.
- Provide feedback and guidance to FTOs regarding documentation quality, training standards, and policy adherence.
- Recommend retraining, corrective action, or removal of FTOs who do not meet program expectations.
Safety Oversight, Field Audits & Monitoring
- Review and evaluate safety incidents involving paratransit personnel.
- Audit vehicle camera footage to identify unsafe behaviors, policy violations, and training deficiencies.
- Conduct audits of camera functionality, ensuring systems are operational, properly positioned, and adjusted as needed.
- Conduct field audits and spot checks of paratransit personnel to assess compliance with safety, policy, and service standards.
- Conduct ride-along field evaluations with paratransit personnel to observe safety performance, ADA compliance, customer interactions, vehicle operation, and adherence to company policies and operational standards, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions or remedial training as appropriate.
Investigations & Discipline
- Conduct investigations related to safety and policy issues, including review of video footage, documentation, and employee statements.
- Issue disciplinary actions for safety and policy violations in accordance with company policy and in coordination with the Director of Safety & Risk Management, Operations, and HR.
- Prepare thorough investigative reports and supporting documentation.
- Track corrective actions and ensure assigned remediation or monitoring is completed.
Collaboration, Reporting & Administrative Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Paratransit Operations Manager & Director of Safety & Risk Management to align training oversight with operational needs.
- Coordinate with Dispatch, Safety, HR, and Maintenance regarding findings, corrective actions, and training requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for training completion, FTO evaluations, safety audits, camera reviews, investigations, and disciplinary actions.
- Prepare and submit required daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Track training and safety metrics and report trends to the Director of Safety & Risk Management.
- Assist with other duties and projects assigned by management to support training, safety, and operational needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card issued by the American Heart Association
- Medical Examiner’s Certificate (DOT physical), current and valid
- Valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Ability to maintain all required licenses, certifications, and continuing education in good standing
Required Certification – Conditional
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification (American Heart Association or equivalent), required within six (6) months of hire
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) or NEMT operational experience preferred.
- Prior experience as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Preceptor, Supervisor, or Educator strongly preferred.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Higher education in EMS, healthcare, education, or a related field preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly instruct, coach, document performance, and communicate expectations across all levels of the organization
- Ability to objectively evaluate field performance, documentation quality, and training compliance
- Ability to communicate feedback in a professional, respectful, and constructive manner
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with training databases, LMS platforms, or compliance tracking tools preferred
