Job Category: Education, The Excel Center – Northern Indiana is a high-quality, free, public high school for adult learners 18 and older. We provide coursework toward completing the required credits for students to earn an Indiana Core 40 diploma (not a TASC/GED/HSE program). Our students benefit from a structured learning environment with direct/ face-to-face instruction, an accelerated format, small classes and individualized attention that meets the unique needs of adult learners. All students are assigned a life coach providing academic and personal counseling to support students pursuing their goals. Our staff have a significant impact on the lives of students seeking a second chance to change their lives. The Excel Center also requires students to earn industry-recognized certificates and/or dual credit college courses. We are seeking a dynamic and innovative team to assist in this endeavor.

Summary

The role of Paraprofessional is to support in-class instruction with additional follow up, remedials support, via small group instruction and or hands-on support during instruction with the classroom teacher. The Paraprofessional must have a proficient understanding of the course content, demonstrate a routine of timeliness, confidentiality, and integrity. The Paraprofessional must have excellent verbal and written skills, can remain calm, be flexible, and demonstrate collaboration. The role includes working closely with staff to maintain an orderly environment and positive learning climate. Other duties may include collecting papers, assisting students in online credit recovery, creating student accounts, and meeting with instructors to address the educational objectives to be met. This position reports to the School Director who evaluates performance annually.

Duties

• Execute recruitment strategies to attract prospective students through outreach and events.
• Maintain classroom order and discipline.
• Assist with academic remediation and small group instruction.
• Collect, record, and send student work to the appropriate destinations.
• If equipment is malfunctioning, make it top priority to remedy the trouble.
• Support in-class instruction.
• Assist with student attendance keeping.
• Assist with student comprehension of academic expectations.
• Administer tests and make-up tests.
• Communicate student’s progress with teachers and coaches.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education

• High school diploma required
• Achievement of Para-Pro Assessment

Qualifications

• Flexible availability for daytime and evening classes.
• Experience working in an educational setting.
• Experience working with a diverse adult population is preferred.
• Experience with technology, specifically Outlook and Google applications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Flexible, energetic, and detail oriented.
• Be able to collaborate with a team.
• Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.
