Position: Paraprofessional: Educational Support

Location: Mispillion Elementary School

Reports To: Principal/Assistant Principal

Starting Date: September 2026

Note: All staff are hired by Milford School District rather than in a specific building. Final placement is subject to change based on district staffing needs.

of the Program: The Educational Support Paraprofessional provides instructional and student support across a variety of grade levels, classrooms, and educational settings based on the needs of the building and students. Working under the direction of a teacher or specialist, this position supports individual students, small groups, and whole-class instruction. The paraprofessional provides support to diverse learners, students requiring additional literacy instruction, students requiring academic intervention, and students receiving special education services. Responsibilities may include reinforcing academic skills, implementing teacher-directed instructional strategies, providing accommodations and modifications, monitoring student progress, collecting instructional data, supporting student behavior and classroom routines, and helping maintain a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. Flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and the ability to respond to the diverse needs of students are essential to this position.

Qualifications

  • Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification through one of the following:
    • High School Diploma plus passing the Paraprofessional Assessment, or
    • Completion of at least two years (60 credits) at an institution of higher learning, or
    • Associate's degree or higher

  • Serve as a school-wide paraprofessional, providing instructional and student support across grade levels, classrooms, and educational settings as assigned.
  • Provide flexible support throughout the school day based on the instructional, academic, behavioral, and student support needs of the building.
  • Assist with instruction and instructional activities for individual students, small groups, and whole-class instruction.
  • Reinforce reading, writing, language, communication, and other academic skills using teacher-directed instructional strategies.
  • Support diverse learners through teacher-directed activities that reinforce language development, literacy, and academic skills.
  • Provide instructional support to students who require intervention or additional academic assistance.
  • Support students needing intervention and/or receiving special education services under the direction of the classroom teacher, special education teacher, or appropriate specialist.
  • Assist with the implementation of accommodations and modifications identified for students under the direction of the teacher or specialist.
  • Adapt instructional activities, materials, and supports as directed to meet individual student learning needs.
  • Reinforce and implement teacher or specialist-directed instructional strategies, interventions, and supports.
  • Monitor and record student progress and collect instructional data to assist teachers and specialists in evaluating student growth.
  • Adjust instructional support in response to student abilities, developmental levels, language needs, and instructional goals.
  • Reinforce appropriate behaviors and respond to student behavioral needs with professionalism, consistency, and respect.
  • Monitor student activities and behavior to help ensure a safe, positive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist students with classroom routines, organization, transitions, and other school-related activities as needed.
  • Provide support that promotes student independence, participation, and access to meaningful learning opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and educational records.
  • Establish and maintain positive, cooperative relationships with students, teachers, specialists, administrators, and families.
  • Collaborate with teachers and specialists to communicate observations, student needs, progress, and concerns.
  • Participate in professional learning related to instructional practices, academic development, intervention strategies, accommodations, modifications, and student support.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support students and building needs throughout the school day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
