Job Description

Full-Time | Monday- Friday| 8am-4:30pm | Year round, Extended weekends and holidays off

At BHA Academy, Paraprofessionals provide individualized academic, behavioral, and daily living support to students with developmental disabilities and complex behavioral needs. This role works closely with teachers, behavior clinicians, and therapists to implement instructional strategies, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and skill-building programs that promote student growth, independence, and success.

Paraprofessionals help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment by providing consistent supervision, collecting data, implementing evidence-based strategies, and supporting students across classroom, community, and school settings.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring the ability to maintain student supervision, respond appropriately to behavioral situations, assist with personal care needs, and implement safety procedures as trained.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • College coursework in education, psychology, or related fields preferred
  • Experience working with children or individuals with developmental disabilities preferred

  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Strong organization, reliability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to accept feedback and work collaboratively with a team

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Student Support & Instruction

  • Provide direct academic, behavioral, and developmental support to students.
  • Implement individualized instructional strategies, behavior plans, and skill-building programs with consistency.
  • Support student goals related to communication, independence, social skills, and daily living activities.
  • Collect and document data related to student progress and behavior goals.
  • Assist with personal care needs including toileting, hygiene, feeding, and mobility support as needed.

Behavioral Support & Safety

  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining dignity, respect, and high expectations.
  • Implement positive behavior supports, crisis prevention strategies, and safety procedures as trained.
  • Maintain structured routines, visual supports, and learning environments that promote regulation and success.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately during behavioral escalations.

Collaboration & Professionalism

  • Work closely with teachers, behavior clinicians, therapists, and other team members to support student success.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow FERPA, BHA policies, and professional standards.
  • Provide consistent support across classrooms, transitions, related services, and community activities.
  • Accept coaching and feedback while contributing to a positive team environment.

Classroom & Program Support

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe learning environment.
  • Support classroom routines, student transitions, and daily activities.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide flexible support across classrooms and students as needed.

Additional Duties

  • Complete required documentation, including daily notes, incident reports, and data collection.
  • Participate in required trainings such as crisis prevention, CPR/First Aid, and mandated reporting.
  • Administer medications and complete documentation as trained and required.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
