The Paramedic–Field Training Officer (FTO) is responsible for performing the essential functions of a Paramedic while also serving as a mentor, trainer, and evaluator for newly hired Paramedics. This role ensures that new employees are introduced to Medtrans’ standards of advanced patient care, operational procedures, and compliance requirements. The Paramedic-FTO promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and professional excellence by modeling best practices and providing structured training, guidance, and performance feedback in the field.Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the lead trainer during field orientation and ride-alongs for newly hired Paramedics.
• Provide direct instruction on ALS clinical skills, assessment techniques, medication administration, airway management, cardiac care, and safe ambulance operations.
• Train and reinforce patient care protocols, documentation standards, equipment usage, and operational procedures.
• Evaluate trainee performance daily, identifying strengths, deficiencies, and readiness for independent practice.
• Document all trainee progress through written evaluations, checklists, and training reports in accordance with company and EMS Agency standards.
• Participate in performance improvement or remedial training plans when necessary.
• Model professional behavior, reinforcing Medtrans policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and all applicable EMS Agency regulations.
• Perform all Paramedic responsibilities, including advanced patient assessment, ALS interventions, medication administration, documentation, and safe transport.
• Ensure ambulances are stocked, clean, and operationally ready at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Communicate trainee performance or compliance concerns to supervisors and Clinical Education leadership.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and high-quality patient-centered care throughout all field operations.
