Paramedics provide emergency treatment, including advanced life support, to patients in emergencies.By joining the Emergency Department team at Mercy Hospital as a Paramedic, you willassess the urgent medical needs of patients and stabilize their conditions.You will interact with other caregivers and be given directions on tasks to complete such asdrawing labs,assistingwithpatienttransfersand administering patient medications.Taking on this opportunity will helpassistin patient flow and efficiency in the Emergency Department, which takes tasksoff ofthe busy nursing staff.
APRNcaregiver in this position worksvarying days and hours between 9:00AM – 3:30AM,including weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide duties thatassistin providing patient care in the Emergency Department under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Obtain and record vital signs
Perform EKGs, CPR, phlebotomy and oral, nasal and ET suctioning.
Initiate cardiac monitoring, oxygentherapyand saline locks.
Notify the RN and/or physician of rhythm changes.
Applyorthopaedicappliances and simple splints.
Size crutches and teach crutch walking.
Assistwith equipment setup, chest tubes, gastric lavage, LP, etc.
Assistwith restraint and seclusion of patients and apply restraint devices.
Transport patients and specimens.
Assistwith sterile procedures and cleaning andmaintainingsupplies and equipment.
Maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy.
Perform fluid/drug administration.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Completion of an accreditedEMS-Paramedictraining program
Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP) in Ohio
Basic Life Support (BLS)andAdvanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)certificationsthrough the American Heart Association (AHA)orAmericanRed Cross
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through theAmerican HeartAssociation (AHA)or American Red Crossupon hire or within one year of start date in the Emergency Department
Clinical experience through an EMS Paramedic training program
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)
One year of experience as an EMT-P
Physical Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
