Job Description

The Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church is seeking a Paralegal Supervisor to lead and oversee a team of Paralegal I and Paralegal II professionals while managing the daily operations of the paralegal unit. This position plays a key role in promoting operational efficiency, maintaining service standards, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

Specific duties include:

  • Supervising and coordinating paralegal staff and daily operations;
  • Overseeing legal support services and litigation support functions;
  • Assigning and monitoring workloads, evaluating employee performance, coordinating training and professional development activities, addressing operational and performance-related issues, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and timely legal support services;
  • Providing advanced legal, technical, and administrative support; and
  • Performing personnel, budget, payroll, and program support functions.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Knowledge of legal procedures, legal resources, court operations, and the criminal justice system;
  • Understanding of legal terminology, legal document preparation, records management practices, case management, discovery processes, court filing requirements, and office procedures;
  • Considerable knowledge of supervisory principles and practices sufficient to review the work of others, train staff, manage performance, coordinate workloads, and implement new procedures; and
  • Excellent reading comprehension, communication, interpersonal, problem solving, and organizational skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; and
  • Progressively responsible paralegal experience in a legal environment, including experience coordinating legal support functions and supervising or leading staff.

Professional License/Certifications – Completion of a paralegal program recognized by the American Bar Association.

Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience

Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with experience in a prosecutor’s office, criminal justice agency, or closely related setting.

It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. Additional Information

Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, flexible schedule with limited telework opportunities and flexibility for occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.

Compensation: The full salary range for this role is $87,318.40 - $135,324.80 annually and offers will depend on experience.
